Tonight our “adopted” sister, Lauren (11), spent the night for one of the girls’ very first sleepovers. Aubrey(5) and Lauren were determined they could share a twin-size bed. Emma, however, wasn’t “down” for even sharing her room with someone else and asked in the sweetest and most adorable voice EVER, if she could “Pwease, pwease sweep in your bed wif you Momma?” I told Emma that was fine just for tonight but Aubrey and Lauren were determined to sleep in the same bed regardless, and didn’t give a hoot if there was an extra bed or not.
I checked on Aubrey and Lauren a few times this evening and all was well, even though they were squished into one bed, they were perfectly happy about it.
I was trying to get Sadie settled down for the night, when Aubrey came walking into the den with Moo, her favorite stuffed animal slung over her shoulder. (Who happens to be a hot pink giraffe…)
Aubrey: Mommy, I don’t fink dere’s enough room in my bed.
Me: That’s OK. Lauren can sleep in Emma’s bed.
Aubrey: Well…(her eyes filled with tears) I’ve been thinking about Emma.
Me: You have?
Aubrey: Mm-hmm, and I want her. Can you go get her for me? (Her voice actually cracked, pitiful!)
Me: Honey, she is asleep in my bed.
Aubrey: Can I go get in there wif her Momma?
Why can’t they like each other this much when they are both AWAKE?
UPDATE: (Per Dairy Queen’s request!) Aubrey slept in her bed, Lauren slept in Emma’s bed, Emma slept in my bed, Sadie slept in my arms and I didn’t sleep at all…
