That’s What It’s All About

Yesterday afternoon, I was baby talking with Sadie(3 mos). The louder and more ridiculous I sounded, the bigger her grin AND the louder Aubrey(4) and Emma(2) would giggle. I led a rousing rendition of 6 Little Ducks, followed in quick succession by every song the big girls know, including a few Christmas songs.

Sadie smiled and cooed at me and the big girls being silly.

I said, “Let’s sing the Hokey Pokey!”

Aubrey said “What’s that??”

I was horrified! How could my child be 4 years old and NOT know the Hokey Pokey?

We got on iTunes and downloaded it, after shaking it all about one good time, Emma said “I wike dat Momma, wet’s do it again. Wet’s do the Holy Pokey…”

Aubrey cheered “YEAH, put your red foot in!!!”

I said “It’s the HOKEY POKEY, and your RIGHT foot! But we can do it again!”

So we did! :)

Emma’s Prayer

Emma(2): Dear Lord, Thank you for my fam-i-ly, thank for my sisters, thank you for my best friend ever in the whole world, Poppa. Thank you Mary had a little lamb”
Me: Amen
Emma: (finger pointed in my face) No I not done yep. (Hands folded again,) Thank you for the farm, thank you cousins, thank you for Shuggie and waffles…
Me: Amen.
Emma: (finger in my face again) NO I NOT DONE YEP! Do dis Momma, (folds hands again.) Thank you for the Lord, thank you the stars and the trees.
Me: Emma, you know you can talk to God all by yourself when Mommy’s not in here, right?
Emma: (hands spread in amazement) OH MY GASH! (Not a typo, that’s how she says it.)

Mommy’s Five Day Pedicure

Day 1: Remove old crusty nail polish from eight toes, leftover from the last time you had a “real” pedicure (probably about the time your last child was born…or the last time you had to have your feet in stirrups.) Break up a fight between the kids, cook dinner, feed the baby, and clean the kitchen. Take a shower, realize you never finished taking off your polish, remove nail polish from remaining 2 toes. Clip 3 toenails, put your 4-year-old back in the bed, get water 3 times for your 2-year-old until the ice to water ratio is exactly right and you finally get the cup she wanted, feed the baby. Collapse in the bed due to exhaustion.

Day 2: Wake up at 4am, feed the baby. Get back in bed for a few hours. Get up again at 6:30, get dressed, put on makeup. Finish clipping toenails and possibly filing them. Make lunches, and breakfast, take your kids to school. Run errands, feed the baby, clean house, pick kids up, put kids down for naps, feed the baby. Apply base coat. Collapse in the bed due to exhaustion. Get up cook dinner, clean kitchen, bath time, feed baby, bed time. You got it, collapse in bed due to exhaustion.

Day 3: Congratulations, today you get to apply your first coat of color. To 6 toes, until your 4–year-old catches you and demands a mani/pedi…do laundry, feed the baby, fold and put away. Lunch. Feed the Baby. Naps. Feed the Baby. Dinner. Collapse in the bed.

Day 4: Feed the baby, make breakfast, make lunches. Take the kids to school. Go to the grocery store, put up groceries. Come home and feed the baby, clean the bathrooms and apply a second coat of color. Pick the kids up, put them down for naps. And collapse in the bed.

Day 5: If there is any nail polish left on your toes, you may now apply your top coat. If not, you get to start over. Isn’t amazing that something you can pay to have done in 30 minutes, takes a minimum of 5 days to do at home?

When was the last time you even THOUGHT about personal hygiene? Are you a pedicure DIYer or do you splurge and get “professional” help?

Waltzing Matilda

The “big girls” are currently in love with the movie “Matilda”. There is a scene in the movie where Matilda stands on a coffee table and dances to “Little Bitty Pretty One.” It is my girls’ collective dream to reenact this scene OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER again. Usually dancing on the table is a “no-no” in our house, but they do it so often that I finally grabbed a camera to document their table dancing for posterity. Hopefully we won’t look back one day and say “this was your very first table dance….” I need to go pray, now.

This is the last picture that was taken right before Emma(2) shoved Aubrey(4) out of the limelight. Thankfully, my kids are part silly putty and no ER visit was required.
