Contested Ended! Read on…
I’ve been wanting to start a series about my favorite things for a looooong time, and since I only have 7 kids at my house right now, I decided TODAY is the day! (I really do have 7 kids at my house but they are practically babysitting each other. And you know how all of a sudden your kids find their own toys and house SO interesting and fun when somebody else is there?? THAT.)
Onward.
I met Sophie Hudson on The Twitter, where I meet so many of my favorite people. I felt strongly that Sophie was “My People”, so when I realized that she was going to be signing her book, A Little Salty to Cut the Sweet, at Lemuria, in Jackson, MS, on a day that I, TOO was going to be in Jackson, MS, well… I got vurry excited. I got her book, hugged her neck then promptly read almost half of the book on the two-hour drive back to Greenwood. (Zeb was driving. CALM yourself.)
*I read the whole book in less than 24 hours. (I almost cried when people said this to me about my book and wanted to know when the next one would come out. Because as I continued to point out to folks, it’d be like ask a Momma laying on the delivery table, nursing her brand new baby, “When you gonna have another one??”)
So I’m sorry, Sophie. But WRITE FAST, mm’kay?
It’s a big deal that I read it this quickly because lately, I’ve become someone I hardly recognize in the book reading department. I’ve ALWAYS been a one book at a time kind of girl, but currently I am reading about 7 books at the same time. It is driving me nuts and I don’t know how to make it stop. I want it to stop. But I don’t know how!! (“I don’t know how!” Martha would say. You’ll get that after you read the book.) So, the fact that I didn’t get distracted by something shiny while reading her book was sort of a breakthrough for me in the book reading business.
I loved the book. Loved it. If you like good Southern story telling, grew up in the South and/or love bacon and/or Jesus, this book is for you. As I told Sophie, “It made me laugh, it made me cry. It made me sure that Jesus has been hearing my prayers lately. It made me sure that I’m still hearing Him. It made me crave catfish so badly that my husband psychically picked up on it.”
Sophie writes a story about eating a a fish camp with her family and y’all– I could practically smell hushpuppies in the car. Zeb, as I said, was driving and had NO idea what I was reading and said out of the blue, while my mouth was watering, “Catfish sure would be good for supper.”
He is The One.
Do you hear me? We were meant to be.
So there you go. My very first Favorite Things post! YAY!
While you are at it, you can follow Sophie on The Twitter, Facebook or read her blog, Boo Mama, right here.
*It should be noted that I read at the speed of light.

Hi, Robin. I just liked Sophie’s facebook page. I would love to win her book. She sounds like my kind of gal!! The last book I couldn’t put down was Beautiful Disaster.
I don’t just like Sophie on Facebook…I love her! Her podcasts with Melanie (author of Sparkly Green Earrings, which is the book I just finished reading AGAIN…one of those that makes you laugh, cry, and say, “Uh huh, you KNOW that’s right!” in the exact same breath while making lunch and folding laundry…you know what I mean) are fantastic. I’d love a copy of her book!
I love BooMama! And right now I’m reading the 6th man. Can’t stop.

The last book that I couldn’t put down was Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. So weird. I kept wanting to put it down, but I didn’t want it to be that dark … So weird.

Well hello new friend. So glad to have seen your pic on Sophie’s FB page and jumped on over. Oh my, now I have your two books to add to my summer reading pile. Last book I read that was done in less than 24 hours and then my 12 y/o read it lickety split quick… Sparkly Green Earrings.

I really like Sophie. I’m so excited she’s coming to Tupelo on Monday and hoping I get to meet her. I just reread The Help and again couldn’t put it down.
I liked it. I loved The Hunger Games series!! I absolutely love to read, but I have a hard time finding the time lately. I always end up reading the same page over and over again, because my little ones just love to interrupt me
I liked her Facebook page! Last book was “Happy Happy Happy” by Phil Robertson. Big Duck Dynasty fan!
Oh I like her. A lot!
I “liked” Sophie on FB several months ago, and my opinion hasn’t changed at all! I would just love to have a signed copy of her book!
I already liked her page, mainly bc I WANT THIS BOOK!!! I live in the middle of country nowhere (a place where people really, honestly DO buy their groceries at the Dollar Tree (I know this bc my husband of one month used to be one of these people (and I’m trying to break him of this awful habit))) and only have a measly THREE ARCs left to read! WOE IS ME!!! This is a worse fate then the zompocalypse….
Anyway, please enter me in the giveaway!
I’d liked Sophie’s FB page a few weeks ago and just love it. I’d love to have a copy of her book – it’s on my to read list. I am always working my way through a large basket of books. The Everlasting Meal by was the last Tamar Adler was the last book I read.

Liked her facebook! Last book I couldn’t put down Shadows of the Hidden.
I like Sophie on FB and “The” Twitter. Also, the last book I couldn’t put down was “I Want To Pee Alone”. Even with my kids now 16 and 10, I still rarely pee alone:(
Liked her! If you love her book, I will too! I can’t put down Cutting For Stone, and The Outlander series, thanks to you!
I would love to read Sophie’s book! I would love it even more if I were picked to receive the book for free because my husband just saw my Amazon book bill from last month and subsequently complained of chest pain and a sense of impending doom. The last book I read that I couldn’t put down was called Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson. I couldn’t put it down because it was just so funny. I tried reading it on my lunch break at work, but I had to stop doing that because it was the kind of book that is laugh-out-loud funny, and I work on a mental health unit where laughing by yourself is generally considered pathological until proven otherwise.
I saw Sophie’s book in Barnes and Noble just this afternoon! After comparing prices at the different online bookstores, I was planning to purchase the book. However, I looked at her website and saw the link to your website and saw that there was a contest. The prize was Sophie’s book! I decided to try my luck!
Would love to read this book! I’m not from the South but am fascinated by it. The last book I read that I could NOT put down was Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Definitely a different type of book-haha.
I downloaded an read this book in a few days. I loved it so much that I want an autographed copy. I know, sounds silly. But it would be nice to share with a friend, too!
Boo (Sophie) is one of my must read blogs every day. And I’m a fan… have been for a while! The last couldn’t put down book was Freefall to Fly by Rebekah Lions. BUT, the best book I have read this year was Melanie Shankle (Big Mama) book Sparkly Green Earrings! That’s how I discovered BooMama! Can’t wait to read!
