I packed up my 5, 3 and 1 year old daughters yesterday and left Mississippi for Alabama for the weekend. When I did, I forgot one of my own Mommy Tips and paid for it dearly.
When traveling with young children, carry their potty training toilet in the back of your car. I usually line it with a grocery bag and a handful of toilet paper for them to pee on (this avoids sloshing when you empty it.) When I stop to get gas, I open the back of my car and let someone sit down to use the restroom while I’m pumping. When they are done, you simply lift the lid and throw the whole bag in the trash can. (No smelly potty for the car ride.)
Then you line the potty again for the next one! If you have to go to the bathroom you at least won’t have to help your kids do the public restroom squat and can minimize your time in the Public Restroom Petri Dish.
(I really wished I had remembered to do this for our trip…especially when I had to take all three of mine through Fred’s to go to the bathroom.)

Eeeeew, the petri dish part makes me shiver!
Point taken!

That is brilliant. I never would have thought of that!

I'm glad you ladies appreciate my ingenuity. My sister's response to this post was "I think I'm going to vomit." She has a boy and has yet to make three girls do the public restroom squat and try to simultaneously keep the other two out of that "wittle bitty twash can…"
